In the comics Loki sometimes appears in female form, so you can crossplay him without looking like a crossplayer if you really want to. : P
The comics I've seen him (as a her) in were Marvel crossover events, I'm not sure which one(s?). Those events are pretty cool, and a nice way to get into the universe. I'd recommend starting with House of M, since it plays an important role in many of the following events. There is an event that sets House of M in motion, but I don't recall what it's called, and it may be a confusing place to start from (I read that one last and it was still a bit vague).
